Treatment and Support
HIV Edmonton is a proud partner of the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE). We are pleased to provide the following CATIE Treatment workshops:
- HIV VIRAL REPLICATION CYCLE & TREATMENT
A look at how HIV operates in your body and how viral replication takes place. We will also take a brief look at HAART for HIV and what some of the most common side effects may be for someone receiving HAART.
- STARTING TREATMENT
This workshop starts with a history of HIV treatment and a review of current guidelines for starting treatment. It continues with a more in-depth survey of anti-retroviral drug classes and individual medications. Together, we will look at some of the common questions people have when starting treatment and possible answers using plain and simple language.
CATIE is responsible for brokering the exchange of information related to the prevention, treatment, care and support for people living with and vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.
You can use CATIE as a single gateway for information, resources and contacts addressing all aspects of HIV/AIDS. Simply put, whether you are a person living with HIV and needing information about treatment options or a front-line worker designing a prevention program, start at CATIE. If they don’t have an answer, they can connect you with the resources and expertise that exist coast to coast.
They continue to operate our toll-free information line and Web sites, offer in-person workshops and produce publications on HIV treatment. In addition, CATIE now act as the national clearinghouse for HIV/AIDS materials produced in Canada.
