About Us
HIV Edmonton has been providing support, community education, advocacy, prevention and harm reduction education to the Edmonton community for twenty-five years. We are a community-based, not-for-profit organization that works to reduce HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination. Working collaboratively with many community partners we used evidence-based research and remain ahead of the curve on the latest HIV/AIDS information.
MISSION STATEMENT: HIV Edmonton provides support, education, and advocacy for those infected with, affected by, and at risk of HIV.
VISION STATEMENT: HIV Edmonton works with the whole community, in a global context, ensuring:
- There are no new HIV infections.
- People living with HIV live longer, healthier lives, free of stigma.
- Everyone affected by HIV gets the services they need without barriers or discrimination.
STRATEGIC PLAN 2011- 2014 HIV Edmonton has developed a 2011-2014 strategic plan and has developed eight key strategic directions through staff, board and community input:
- Capacity Building
To increase the capacity of community, education, health and social service providers (CEHSP) to offer services free of barriers and discrimination for those infected with, affected by and at risk of HIV.
- Support
Quality care is provided to PLWH, those affected by and at risk of HIV, so that they have the support they need, enhancing the quality of their lives.
- Creating supportive environments through advocacy and policy support
To advocate on behalf of individuals living with, affected by and at risk of HIV on issues directly related to HIV, to raise public awareness of the societal cost / impact of the disease, and to inform public policy and practice.
- Community Education
To offer community-based HIV related education to CEHSP and those infected with, affected by and at risk of HIV.
- Communication
To strengthen our capacity to communicate our goals, key messages, services and accomplishments to the community. To increase our visibility in the HIV community specifically and Edmonton generally.
- Research & Evaluation
HIV Edmonton fosters and provides open access to the latest published and peer-reviewed information on HIV. Research is used to influence HIV activism, advocacy, education and support.
- Organizational Development
HIV Edmonton engages in continuous organizational review and evaluation in order to create and maintain a healthy work environment, support work-life balance for staff and volunteers, and increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Diversify Sources of Revenue / Fund Development
HIV Edmonton's work is developed and sustained through appropriate funding from a variety of sources.
