HIV Edmonton Announces the WINNER of 2nd Annual BIG GAY BAR CHALLENGE

Junction Bar & Eatery Wins 2nd Annual Challenge - 2nd Consecutive win for Junction!

HIV Edmonton is proud to announce JUNCTION BAR & EATERY as the winner of the 2nd Annual Big Gay Bar Challenge, presented by Gay Calgary and Edmonton Magazine. Bars participating in the challenge raised nearly $2,000 for the 2011 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life, held September 18, 2011.

Three (3) Edmonton bars that celebrate the LGBT community participated in the challenge, held over three nights. This challenge has been established by HIV Edmonton to not only raise funds for the 2011 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life, but to also demonstrate the generosity of Edmonton’s LGBT community.

In addition, HIV Edmonton has partnered with Gay Calgary & Edmonton Magazine for the challenge. Junction receive a free full-page, full-colour ad in the October issue of Gay Calgary & Edmonton.


“We are thrilled to continue our support of this friendly competition in Edmonton,” said Steve Polyak, Gay Calgary and Edmonton Magazine. “The beauty of this challenge is the spirit of solidarity by the LGBT community.”

Dates of the 2nd Annual Big Gay Bar Challenge were:
   • August 28 - Queers Never Die (New City Legion, 8130 Gateway Blvd.)
   • September 3 - Flash Nightclub (10018-105 Street)
   • September 4 - The Junction Bar & Eatery (10242-106 Street)

The 2011 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life is September 18 at Sir Winston Churchill Square. Registration begins at 11:00 am. Festivities include a special concert by the Big Breakfast Boogie Band, a special performance by performers of the Citadel Theatre Young Companies, a free pancake breakfast for participants, and entertainment for all. The 5 km walk through downtown Edmonton to the Legislature Building starts at 1:00 pm.
