HIV Edmonton Announces the EXTRA MILE CLUB

Introduction of Nick Lees as the first ever Mile High Marshall

Edmonton - HIV Edmonton is proud to introduce the EXTRA MILE CLUB for the 2009 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life: Alberta Throwdown.

Participants that raise $1,000 or more in support of the Walk for Life will automatically become members of the EXTRA MILE CLUB.  This club has been established by HIV Edmonton to recognize and celebrate those that go the extra mile in their fundraising efforts.

extra-mile.gifIn addition, HIV Edmonton has named their first ever Mile High Marshall, Mr. Nick Lees from the Edmonton Journal.  Lees has an illustrious reputation in Edmonton as the ultimate supporter of community events, having run in 55 marathons to date.  Lees has used his enjoyment of running to raise funds for many charities.

Lees has been recognized for his community efforts many times. He is a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and The City of Edmonton's Award of Excellence for Sport Volunteering. Grant McEwan College recognized him as an Outstanding Citizen and presented him with an Honorary Diploma. The Professional Society of Fundraisers recognised him with its annual Philanthropy Award.

Lees will lead the members of the EXTRA MILE CLUB.  Benefits of membership include:

On September 20, 2009, Edmontonians are invited to gather at Churchill Square to walk to raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS programs and services. The 2009 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life: Alberta Throwdown is the largest annual fundraiser for HIV Edmonton and it will be a head-to-head fundraising competition with AIDS Calgary.  Pledges can be made online at www.hivedmonton.com or directly with individual walkers or team captains.
