Distanced, Yet Connected: AIDS Walk 2020

Although our event will look different this year due to COVID-19, the AIDS Walk continues to be our most important fundraiser! We hope that you will join us as we fundraise and walk distanced, yet connected on September 19.

We continue to live in unprecidented times and therefore our AIDS Walk will look different compared to past years. This year, we will be walking distanced, yet connected. What does this mean? We will not be walking our typical route down Whyte Avenue together. However, that does not mean that we are not united. This year, when you sign up for the AIDS Walk, you are committing to walking in your own neighbourhood or park on September 19th. We will walk united throughout the city of Edmonton, showing that we continue to work together to fight for our vision of Zero: Zero new HIV infections, Zero stigma and discrimination, and Zero AIDS related deaths. We are in this together! Don't worry! We we have a celebration! With the performances by the amazing singer/songwriter Shawnee, our long standing friend and ally Drag Queen superstar Vanity Fair and some powerful speakers addressing HIV and COVID and how it's adding to vulnerability and isolation. This is the year we need your help more than ever.

The situation we’re living in is challenging us all – and it’s also making us appreciate the importance of connection which is why we are choosing to Walk “distanced, yet connected”.  As we take on this new public health pandemic of COVID-19 all while experiencing the ongoing HIV pandemic, the opioid epidemic and the prevailing poverty making those already disenfranchised more vulnerable to all, this is a unique time of uneasiness and discomfort. COVID-19 is shining a very bright and pointed light on inequities in our health and community wellbeing.  We’ve found ourselves needing to quickly pivot our programs while adapting, like everyone else, to new more distant ways of working and living.  Join us as we come together to raise funds at this critical time, when support is more crucial, funds are much harder to come by, and our services require unprecedented resources.
