Body Mapping

Recently, the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE), along with the Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative and Jane Solomon of South Africa shared their knowledge of Body Mapping with AIDS service organizations across Canada, including HIV Edmonton staff.

Body Mapping is a creative approach to sharing life experiences through art.  It is also a treatment information and support tool for people who are about to start ARV treatment, as well as for those who would like to understand their treatment better.

HIV Edmonton recently held a three-day Body Mapping workshop August 29 - September 1, 2008.    Participants were members of HIV Edmonton's Peer Support program, and each completed unique and beautiful works of art known as bodymaps. HIV Edmonton will showcase the bodymaps on November 25 at HIV Edmonton's Open House (see AIDS Awareness Week Schedule.) The bodymaps will also be displayed at The Carrot Community Arts Coffeehouse in February. Keep checking the HIV Edmonton website for more details.

Tp learn more about bodymapping around the world visit the CATIE website.  If you are interested in learning more about bodymapping or attending a workshop, please contact Lynn Sutankayo at lynn.s@hivedmonton.com.
