Become an HIV Edmonton Board Member

HIV Edmonton is currently looking for board members for our 2008 - 2010 term.  We have provided support, community education, advocacy and prevention education to the Edmonton community for over twenty-one years.  Key to our continued success is a strong and dedicated Board of Directors that provides visionary leadership and effective governance.

Prospective new board members can include individuals from the business community, not-for-profit sector, professionals in health and law, and the general public.  Persons living with HIV/AIDS are encouraged to apply.  Forward resume and covering letter BY APRIL 21, 2008 to:  Nominations Committee Chair, Jennie Johnstone, by email at contact7@hivedmonton.com or fax at (780) 488-3735.

Youth Peer Education Project Comes to a Close

HIV Edmonton would like to thank the Wild Rose Foundation for their generous support to our youth programming.  We would also like to thank all the peer voluntees and bid farewell to Andrea Yasyshyn, our Youth Peer Education Facilitator.  She will be missed!

Scholarships to Body Mapping Workshop Available

Body Mapping: Exploring HIV and Treatment Issues through Art

HIV Edmonton will be holding a three-day Body Mapping workshop in September of this year.  Six scholarships will be available for people who are living with HIV and would like to attend.  For more information contact Lynn Sutankayo in April at lynn.s@hivedmonton.com. Etravirine approved in Canada

(CATIE News - Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange)  On March 27, 2008, Health Canada approved the sale and use of the anti-HIV medication etravirine, formerly called TMC125. To be sold under the brand name Intelence, etravirine is meant for treatment-experienced people with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) who have HIV-1 that is resistant to other medications. Etravirine will be sold by Tibotec, a division of Janssen-Ortho Inc.

Development Ministers from G8, Emerging Donor Countries Pledge To Bolster Efforts to Meet MDGs

(Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report - April 8, 2008)  Development ministers from the Group of Eight industrialized nations and some emerging donor countries on Sunday in Tokyo pledged to bolster efforts to meet key targets in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals -- which include curbing the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria -- AFP/Yahoo! News reports.
